Event Description
The Heat the Streets Run & Walk for Warmth is a community fundraising event that supports local utility assistance programs, helping neighbors in need pay their utility bills.
Choose from a timed 5K run, timed 10K run, untimed 2-mile walk or participate virtually from anywhere.
Hosted annually by Metropolitan Utilities District and Omaha Public Power District since 2007, the event raises awareness of the ongoing need for utility assistance. While the event takes place during the winter months, the need for help with heating, electricity and other utility costs continues throughout the year.
M.U.D. and OPPD's partnership ensures all costs associated with the event are covered, so 100% of the money received from sponsorships, donations and registrations goes directly to those in need.
Funds raised are administered by Dollar Energy Fund, Inc., a registered 501(c)(3), and then split between M.U.D.’s Home Fund and OPPD’s Energy Assistance Program to provide assistance to our customers living in Burt, Cass, Colfax, Dodge, Douglas, Johnson, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee, Richardson, Sarpy, Saunders and Washington counties. All money raised is distributed through this local network.
Dollar Energy Fund's mission is to improve the quality of life for households experiencing hardships by providing utility assistance and other services that lead to self-sufficiency.
