More than $1 million has been raised over the past 11 years to help thousands of local families in need.

Our Cause

As winter approaches and we begin to don sweaters and scarves, thousands of our neighbors with limited incomes are forced to make difficult decisions of where their money goes – food, medicine or heating their homes.

The Heat the Streets Run & Walk for Warmth fundraising campaign raises money and awareness for those in our community who are in need of utility assistance. Funds are managed by the non-profit organization, Common Fund of the Heartland.

Common Fund partners with five local agencies to provide utility assistance to struggling veterans, seniors, families and individuals with disabilities – 100 percent of which have an annual income of less than $25,000. In 2017, Common Fund provided more than $550,000 worth of assistance to families and individuals in need, and more than 50 percent of calls to the United Way of the Midlands’ 2-1-1 hotline are related to housing and/or utility needs. These are the top unmet needs in our community, as resources are limited. Your support and participation in our event will help mitigate winter’s toll on those in need.

Will you join us to help those in need?
